When Corvan discovers that Sunday school teacher Margaret Leland is friends with the old man, he romances her. He also helps out the local charities and endears himself to the local folk. Corvan is too good at his tricks -- all this hard-won trust is turning him into an honest man.

Freed from her captors, María turns to Julio for help and learns of Dan's relationship with Sally, but Dan perceives Sally's duplicity and is reunited with his bride.

Valor is also led to mistrust Charm, and the two return to their respective parents: his, Finance and Display, and hers, Commerce and Pride. While Charm spends her days with Sorrow, Treachery endeavors to ruin Valor by luring him to a disreputable roadhouse, and when Valor's father tries to bring him home, the young man strikes his father with a bottle. The two sets of parents are in the midst of a financial battle when Charm gives birth to a child, Happiness. The child reunites the couple, and Madame Jealousy, along with her servants Mischief, Treachery and Rumor, finally are banished.
Ramona is the daughter of the governor of Port Royal. She is a school girl living in Spain. John Barton, a soldier of fortune, is cast ashore in Spain penniless and scrapes an acquaintance with Ramona by rescuing one of her pets. He is putting up at a rather questionable tavern where he learns of a huge treasure buried by Firebrand, a pirate, and secures plans of the spot in which it is concealed. Ramona sails for Port Royal and Barton is on the same ship. Firebrand attacks the ship and captures as part of his booty Ramona, whom he appropriates for himself after Barton has been knocked overboard in her defense. Until the acquisition of Ramona, Firebrand's favorite has been Anna, who now becomes jealous of the Spanish beauty.
The Hoorah, richest mine in California, has made millionaires of its three bachelor owners, Joe, Bud, and Dill. It occurs to the two latter men that this wealth, representing the labor and sacrifices of many long years, must, in the event of their death, revert to strangers.
Headed by a young nobleman, the Russian League of Freedom determines to free the peasants from oppression by the government. Prince Paul Alexis is in love with Karin Dolokhof, daughter of the chancellor. Both are working for the league. Shortly after they announce their engagement the prince receives word from the Czar that he must marry the Princess Tanya, for political reasons.
Tom Clark, the part owner of a luckless gas station in New York, returns to his place of birth for Old Home Week, posing as the millionaire president of the Amalgamated Oil Co. He is chosen as the orator for the homecoming banquet and given complete financial control over an oil well drilled in the town by Coleman and Barton, a pair of oily swindlers. Tom discovers that the well is a fake and has it connected secretly with the local reservoir. A wire from Tom's partner is intercepted, and Tom is exposed as a fraud. Coleman and Barton are about to leave town when Tom fakes a gusher and quickly sells the well back to the swindlers at a profit. The swindlers realize that they have been outsmarted, and their anger convinces the townspeople that Tom has acted in the best interests of the community. Tom is again the toast of the town, feted by its inhabitants and rewarded with the kisses of his sweetheart.
