The Eagles performed live for the first time in April 1994 after a fourteen-year-long hiatus. Their reunion album’s name was in reference to Don Henley’s quote after the band’s breakup in 1980, when he commented that they would only play together again “when Hell freezes over”. Recorded at the Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California for an MTV special, the live sessions produced eleven tracks for the album, including a new acoustic version of “Hotel California”.

Featuring almost 2 hours of Eagles live performances recorded during 1973 and 1974, in the first stage of the band's career. Kicking off with a lengthy set the group played at Holland's Popgala Festival on March 10th 1973, a one-off gig the Eagles gave in Europe that spring. The following year they performed in front of the cameras for Don Kirshner's Rock Concert programme, recorded in LA on 19/07/74, a show for which they were joined by old friends Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Browne for a few numbers. Following years of public speculation, the Eagles formally reunited in 1994, 14 years after splitting up in 1980. The ensuing tour spawned the live album, Hell Freezes Over, which debuted at number one on the Billboard album chart. It included four new studio songs, with 'Get Over It' and 'Love Will Keep Us Alive' both becoming Top 40 hits. The album - for which the live tracks were recorded at an MTV Special on April 24, 1994 - proved as successful as the tour, selling six million copies in the U.S. The following night - April 25, 1994 - the Eagles returned to Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank, CA, where they had recorded the previous night, and a second show was filmed and indeed transmitted on television. For the first time on vinyl, this release features this relaxed and quite extraordinary event in its entirety. Captured across two installments, this delightful and rare performance will prove a must have item for Eagles fans everywhere.
The show features some great light and sound effects apart from the great music that Eagles is renowned for. The 'five-part' harmony song, "Hole in the World" elicits a great crowd participation with the audience providing a 'clap rhythm' as the band sings. The song "Life's Been Good" features some antics by Joe Walsh and Frey with them staging a mock rivalry on stage and the latter having a hearty laugh at the former. The song also features a 'helmet cam' session where the crowd gets to see what the camera on Walsh's helmet points at. Also, the songs "The Boys of Summer" and "Hotel California" feature the first officially documented use by the Eagles of a drum machine in a live performance; in particular, during "Hotel California", a pre-programmed track is used to simulate the muted guitar strums which provide a steady beat on the original studio recording of the song, and which are absent from all of the previous live performances of it.
During their Hell Freezes Over Tour (1994-1996), the Eagles gave a performance in Christchurch, NZ on November 26th, 1995. The band played on through freezing rain to deliver for fans.
The BBC "In Concert" TV show which aired April 5th, 1973 was filmed at the Paris Theatre in London a few days earlier on March 20th, 1973. The Eagles were in London to record the Desperado album, which was released April 17th, 1973. The band lineup included Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon.
