Werner is a private investigator. One day, the rich and attractive Stella Hvidsteen visits him in his weary office. She says that her sister Evy has disappeared, asks him to find her, and adds that her sister has red hair.
Following political upheaval, traditionally poor countries have stopped exporting raw materials. The Western world is entering an economic crisis, which is rapidly spreading to Norway. Unemployment rises sharply, and it becomes more difficult to obtain food. The government does not officially acknowledge the crisis, but fear spreads among the population. Demonstrations between the population and the police are now a daily occurrence. Thomas and Vera are also unemployed. The only way out of their predicament is to move out of the city and rent an abandoned farm. The sale of food is banned. Military forces arrive to confiscate what little they have. Later, the city population follows, traveling to the countryside in panic to secure something to eat.

"For Dagene Er Onde"/"For the Days Are Evil" is a gripping and intense story about how evil can grow from envy and collective misunderstanding, and destroy marriage, friendship and love.
We are in NRK's Nine O'Clock News studio at Marienlyst. As usual, Kjell Tue is at the microphone, and in the control room, Totto Osvold is at the helm. Bank manager Hugo Oswald is to be interviewed live, but suddenly collapses dead in the studio, poisoned in front of an open microphone. Police detectives Helmer and Sigurdson are assigned to the case. Pensioner Brockmann, the murdered bank manager's neighbour, also becomes heavily involved in the investigation.
Private detective Ture Sventon is visited by his friend Mr. Omar of the Arabic desert. Sventon decides to travel with Mr. Omar on his flying carpet to Paris. However, Sventon almost exclusively lives on cream puffs, and to transport these across the continent, he needs a portable fridge. He pays a visit to Stockholms foremost fridge inventor and are introduced to a new fridge which shrinks and deshrinks the food. The inventor is afraid his new invention will be stolen, and thus Sventon brings it to Paris where it gets stolen.
