The Beekeeper

Following the wedding of his daughter, stone-faced beekeeper Spyros makes an annual journey from the north of Greece to the south, traveling along with his hives. En route, he meets an erratic, young female drifter, with whom he strikes up an unusual, self-destructive relationship.

Orpheus Descending

Eurydice is a singer in a group that plays in country fairs. The group is not successful and Eurydice gets convinced by a rich farmer to follow him to Athens, where he promises her that he will make her a famous singer. Things do not turn out as promised, and Eurydice returns to the band, which is very successful now, due to Orpheus, a mute clarinet player, who has joined them. The farmer comes to reclaim her by force and Eurydice gets killed in a car accident. Orpheus tries to give her life with his clarinet.

4 Black Suits

Four undertakers in financial trouble latch onto a one-off opportunity to change their lives and bid farewell to a profession they entered for a while, but got stuck in for good. On the promise of a large fee, they fulfill the dying wish of a rich Greek who lived his life abroad: he wants them to take his body from Athens to a village in Boeotia for burial...on foot. Deciding to grant his bizarre request, they embark on an odyssey, which soon becomes an unexpected voyage of discovery.

Aldevaran

Aldevaran is an imaginary city where the word-maven and poet Dimitris, the prostitute Magdalene and the rock musician Chris live together. Every evening, the two men give improvised performances in a coffee bar, until the day that Dimitris is informed by his doctors that he has cancer and only two months to live. The film is about those two months, with Dimitris wandering in an ugly city which is also dying with him.

Happy Day

A concentration camp on a barren island is hell for the exiled political prisoners. The everyday life of the prisoners consists of interrogations, psychological and physical violence, arbitrary punishments and other torments. One of the prisoners who refuses to yield is subjected to torture. Trying to escape, he falls into the sea. When the Queen visits the island, the prison guards find the runaway and murder him without a second thought, since he is already assumed dead.

Medusa

Hippie-Hippie Matala! Matala!

It was in the 60s when Matala, a poor, fishing village in southern Crete, gained worldwide fame with reports in the international press and became the “controversial point” of local society, causing the wrath of the church and the intervention of the military regime in Athens. Hippies from all over the world lived in the famous caves of Matala, forming a unique international community, whose loose and alternative lifestyles provoked the morals of the time. Who were these young people? What brought them to Matala? What was their relationship with the locals? Did orgies really take place? The answers are given by the – nowadays almost septuagenarian – protagonists of the story: Arn and Elmar from Germany, the British sisters Shirley and Pam, Greek musician Dimitris Poulikakos, grandma Alexandra and grandma Katerina, and George, a poor fisherman and a friend of Joni Mitchell from way back.

Living Dangerously

A gifted electrician, Michalis Karamanos works for Greek Telecommunications Organization and it seems that he is the only one who hasn't been completely absorbed by the corrupt and all-devouring system. Acting as a member of the revolutionary organization Constitutional Struggle, which is fighting against the unpopular policy of the government, he connects the computer of the director of OTE to an explosive device. He threatens to destroy the telecommunications of the country if he is not allowed to broadcast on television his revolutionary message during the broadcast of an important football game. The Authorities, thinking that he has gone crazy, try to bring him around using his old friends from the army, whom they pick up one by one as intermediaries. This is a situation comedy with excellent, mature plot development, plenty of suspense as well as masterful criticism of sociopolitical reality.

The Idlers of the Fertile Valley

A wealthy member of the upper classes and his three sons withdraw to a country villa where they spend their days in complete idleness, having everything done for them by their young and beautiful maid. Loafing and Camouflage

The film is the story of a group of soldiers, who, in the course of their compulsory military service in 1967 and 1968, before and during the military dictatorship in Greece, are assigned to the then recently founded Armed Forces Television. This TV station, founded for the civilian population, was run by the Cinematographic Unit of the army which until then had only produced propaganda films and newsreels and was responsible for entertaining the troops and other charity organizations with movie screenings. The personnel was composed mostly of soldiers, who already had experience in the film business in their civilian lives, as well as those who received their training in the army. The story may be only 95% true, but that is simply because the true story is even more absurd...

Two Turkish Eggs

Giannis is a subversive young man who rebels against any social institution or authority. Unemployed by conviction, he cohabits with his German friend Ilze, who supports him, helps his arrogant uncle , a fallen aristocrat, with his drug smuggling, and becomes friends with a Pontian Turk, Mustapha. The latter has entered Greece illegally and follows Giannis to Athens, hoping to find his Greek grandmother, who is none other than Giannis' grandmother as well. Mustapha steals the hearty of Ilze, whom he entertains with tales of his exploits, but the uncle turns them over to the police, and so they are truly in a tight squeeze. They get out of doing time, despite it all, and leave for Turkey, but they stray into Albania, where they are arrested and sentenced to manual labor.

The Murderess

An adaptation of one of the greatest greek novellas ('The Murderess' by Alexandros Papadiamantis). Fragkogiannou (Maria Alkaiou), a hard-done by, deranged woman after a life full of hardship, recalls the past by her newborn girl grandchild’s crib. Her mother was a wicked woman and one of her sons was a criminal. Lost in a haze, she strangles the baby as she is concvinced that girls can cause their family only trouble. Later, she lets a little girl drown in a well, while she drowns three other little girls, one of whom is a newborn baby. This is her way of sparing children and parents of the inevitable suffering in life.

Terirem

The mute wife (Olia Lazaridou) of a shadow-theater player (Antonis Kafetzopoulos) is suffering from cancer. An old woman, guided by her visions, discovers a Byzantine religious icon buried in a field. Her nephew sells the find to a thief, who then murders the old woman, without knowing that she had told the village priest about the holy icon she found. Two priests arrive in the village together with the puppeteer and his ailing wife, and there the wife sees a vision of the icon and where it was located in the field, which leads to the discovery of the bones of a saint. The wife sleeps on the spot where the holy relics were discovered and, upon awaking the following morning, regains her speech.

Telecannibals

An aspiring burglar of a television station falls asleep in the armchair of the General Manager, who has just been dismissed by the Minister responsible. The next day, everyone believes that he is the new General Manager. With the authority he has been given, he changes everything at the channel, causing panic for the program director and driving the real new General Manager to paranoia, as no one takes him seriously anymore.

O fakellos Polk ston aera

Two parallel stories complement each other. The second takes us back to 1948 and describes the events that led to the murder of American journalist George Polk in Thessaloniki, guided by the investigation of the two protagonists and the testimonies of various individuals.

The Blue Villa

The Blue Villa is a seedy bordello on a Mediterranean island where the villages are frightened by the ghost-like return of a young man, who mysteriously disappeared after the killing of a young Eurasian woman.

Gamos sto Perithorio

An 80-year-old widower, Mr. Elias, goes to his village (Perithorio, where he had been president of the community for twenty-four consecutive years) to vote in the municipal elections. There he meets his childhood sweetheart (Fotini, also a widow). Their youthful engagement had been broken off due to a misunderstanding, but now their love is rekindled and they are considering marriage, despite the opposition of Fotini's daughter. When one day the village madman announces their rendezvous, the elderly couple, panicked, take the bus and flee to Drama. There they spend carefree, tender moments, but Mr. Elias' son, Aristides, finds them and forces them to return. However, the big decision has already been made, and when Mr. Elias' pension for former mayors and community presidents comes through, nothing can stop the couple anymore. Fotini comes to Athens and, together with Elias, they visit her grandson.

Shores of Twilight

An adaptation of Alexandros Papadiamantis's short story. Passion for a woman and some desperate thoughts push a young man to secretly take a stranger's boat and set sail. The wind carries him away and he is shipwrecked. He comes to in a cave, near the deserted shores, among three eccentric people who, each for their own reasons, live on the margins of society. He listens to them recount their personal stories with humour and self-deprecation. But behind their seemingly ill-fated romances, he discerns true love.

Made in Greece

Giannis Giannakis, released from psychiatric hospital after many years, decides to return home to his parents. On his way back he slowly discovers that the outside world is crazier than he thought - and starts to question whether he'd be better off back in the psychiatric ward.

Arpa Colla

"Arpa-colla" in Greek literally means "Grab and stick", a phrase used to show something that has been done quickly and therefore isn't good enough. This is what the 2 main heroes of the film are doing. The one is a director(Giorgos) and the other an author(Kostas) with communistic ideas, who has won a prize at a festival. They both want to make a movie for the cinema. But every idea they have never comes true, because every time they meet someone to whom they tell their idea, they change their mind, and they want to make a totally different movie, ideas varying from political cinema to Greek historical dramas and modern films with motorcycle gangs. Not a bad attempt for the Greek cinema of the early 80's, which starts to wake up from the hibernation of the 70's.
