The World of Shura

A yakuza movie starring Koji Matoba, depicting the lives of men left behind in the times. In the Ryuan-gumi, which is based in Yokohama, drug business was prohibited by the leader Engetsu. One day, in order to protect leader's teachings, Mouri of the Ryuan-gumi assassinates the leader of the Yamagami group, a hostile organization that trades drugs. This causes a conflict with the neutrals in the Ryuan-gumi. During this turbulent time, the leader Engetsu asks Mouri to take care of his son Saiga and guide him on the path to becoming a yakuza.

The Hyodo-gumi boss—part of Tendokai, Japan’s largest yakuza syndicate—has been brutally murdered. Kazuma Washio (Hitoshi Ozawa), the head of the Washio-gumi and Tendokai’s wakagashira (underboss), is convinced that Yoshinari Myojin (Sho Aikawa), a former Tendokai wakagashira-hosa now running Tokyo’s underworld of thugs and mafia, is behind the killing. Around the same time, Tendokai's 5th-generation chairman Katsushige (Hakuryu) orders Washio to secure a woman named Nagi Toyama (Akane Hotta). Seizo Munakata, taken in by Shigemasa Mukai, the boss of the Toyo-kai, runs a ramen shop while secretly handling the syndicate’s underground dealings. Former biker gang leader Ryuichi Sawamura and ex-finance bureaucrat Kunihito Soma decide to follow Munakata’s lead. But trouble strikes when Mukai’s wife, Harue, and granddaughter, Shizuka, are abducted by unknown assailants.

Harue shields Shizuka but is gunned down by ex-Shindo-gumi member Yokoyama. Her death pushes Munakata to form his own group, and Mukai entrusts him with his dream of “conquering Japan from Yokohama.” Meanwhile, rumors of Munakata’s new organization reach the Hachio-kai. In Kyoto, Sawamura and allies move to settle a scandal tied to their associate Horita, but are ambushed by Gudokai, leaving Murata injured again. Elsewhere, Yamaoka visits Yokohama, seeking Toyokai’s help to eliminate Onda.

With Munakata Seizo as boss, Sawamura Ryuichi and Soma Kunihito establish the Munakata-gumi under the banner of Resshikai. Soon after, Shindo-gumi’s Shimaki, carrying the missing ransom money, shows up at Munakata’s ramen shop. Meanwhile in Kyushu, Shindo-gumi schemes with the infamous Moji family for profit.

Ordered by cult leader Takahara (Mizuki Nishikawa), armed followers attack, and despite fighting back, Himuro and Tamura are captured. When Himuro questions Takahara about the cult’s true goal, he receives a chilling, cryptic answer. Meanwhile, suspecting Deputy Police Commissioner Mikami (Yasuhiro Arai) is linked to the cult, investigator Sahara (Takayuki Kinba) takes a risky step by consulting Matsumiya (Gen Hongo).

They inform only Special Investigation officer Sahara (Takayuki Kinba) that the incidents were not orchestrated by Kyowakai or the Marugami-kai, urging him to investigate those behind the scenes. Both Himuro and Sahara suspect corruption within the police, with Sahara casting doubt on Matsumiya (Gen Hongo) and others. As police suddenly move to arrest Mita (Shun Sugata), Himuro and Sahara find it suspicious that attention shifts from Kyowakai to the Marugami-kai following Mikawa’s (Yasuhiro Arai) appointment as deputy commissioner. Sahara struggles to investigate Mikawa due to his ties to the powerful Yoshioka family. Meanwhile, suspecting religion is linked to an impending terror plot, Himuro begins reaching out to those connected to the World Kamome Church.
