For his opera Garnier stage-directing debut, Simon Stone creates a sensational La Traviata, 2.0! Pretty Yende and Benjamin Bernheim triumph as Violetta and Alfredo in a production that remixes the beloved operatic masterpiece’s familiar love story for the digital age, adding social media notifications, all-nighters, texts, and parties to produce an interpretation starkly appropriate for our modern era. At the podium, Michele Mariotti conducts the Paris National Opera Orchestra.
Deposed by the genius Robin-Luron and replaced by the despotic and populist King Carrot, the leader of the vegetables, Fridolin XXIV of Krokodyne, faces all kinds of zany and wonderful adventures: from the spells of the witch Coloquinte to his encounter with the enchanter Quiribi and Rosée-du-Soir. They help him regain his throne and overthrow the tyrannical Carrot. A burlesque nightmare.
This is Laurent Pelly’s Théâtre des Champs-Élysées staging of Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, with a cast featuring Florian Sempey as Figaro, Catherine Trottmann as Rosina, and Michele Angelini as Il Conte Almaviva. Jérémie Rhorer conducts Le Cercle de l-Harmonie.
