Soviet engineer Kuznecov is coming to Prague as an expert on work with the tunneling shield in construction of the metro. He is returning after more than thirty years. In May 1945 as a young soldier in the Red Army he was seriously injured in the liberation of Prague and while recovering experienced a great love with a young teacher called Vera.

The protagonist is the ordinary and still blameless Evžen Macík, who one day, while waiting for his lover Maria, witnesses a robbery of a savings bank. When the robber drops a briefcase with half a million in loot, the loot falls in front of Evžen, who can't resist, picks it up and disappears. He knows that someone might have seen him at the scene of the crime, so he turns himself in as a witness to Captain Richter, who is investigating the case. Shortly thereafter, however, Maciek is contacted by the robber, who begins to force him to hand over the money with constant threats, initially only by telephone. In addition to pressure from the robber, pressure from the police is added because Captain Richter correctly suspects that Macík is hiding something from him. The mounting pressure leads to Eugene starting to make mistakes.

Wild Swine is actually an ironic name for the great search operation of Prague's criminologists, who in a tangle of criminal activity of various kinds were digging around like wild swine before they managed to solve a complicated case. The story takes place in a variety of social spheres, from the Roma people to the world of Prague prostitutes and bakshellers to prominent people.

The Hop-Pickers

Working on the hops fields gathering hops for beer, Filip catches a glimpse of fellow worker/comrade Hanka and falls for her. Trying to keep their love secret from the field owners,fellow worker Honza becomes jealous of Filip having a romance with Hanka, which leads to Honza deciding that he will feed the hop field owners Hanka and Filip's secret romantic hops.

BrainStorm

Private psychologist Jakub tries to help others, but he has his own problems. Then he gets to take care of his old father which starts a lot of funny situations due to fathers starting dementia. Then this new medication appears...

Boomerang

The story, written by former George Stransky former political prisoners and today's chairman Pen Club is situated to 50 years and uranium camp of political prisoners in Pribram, where after the fall of the Stalinist cult comes at the end of 1958 as a prisoner of the former Chief of Main Administration of correctional facilities Colonel Good. Former chief topic of coexistence, "a guard" and political prisoners in the Bolshevik camp served timeless makers to reflect on the possibility (or impossibility) of forgiveness and a sense of justice. The film, unfortunately, below expectations - mainly because of its rarity and lack syžetovou arching dramatic arc of the story, including natural gradation. Nice camera and vice versa are cast, formed literally myriad of top Czech actors. A representative of one of the main roles - Jiri Schmitzer in 1997 was awarded the Czech Lion.

Hordubal

After five years of hard work in America Juraj Hordubal (Anatoliy Kuznetsov) returns back home. He is looking forward to his wife Polana (Libuse Geprtová) and his little daughter Hafie. The family and the village welcome him with hesitation. Everybody believed that Juraj died in America because Polana stopped receiving money from him already two years ago. Polana's farm was prospering first of all thanks to the young stable boy Stepán (Sándor Oszter). Men in the pub first indicate and then say to Juraj directly that Polana has been unfaithful to him with Stepán.

The Red Baron

Richthofen goes off to war like thousands of other men. As fighter pilots, they become cult heroes for the soldiers on the battlefields. Marked by sportsmanlike conduct, technical exactitude and knightly propriety, they have their own code of honour. Before long he begins to understand that his hero status is deceptive. Madeline is taken in by the Malemute Kid, Jack Harrington and Stanley Perry, who give her lessons in singing, dancing and social behavior. Madeline soon surpasses "her rivals" with her natural intelligence and charm...

Noční jízda

Stanek, a truck driver, is working on a large construction site far from Prague. He hasn't been home for several weeks and is tormented by the idea that his wife is unfaithful. So he sets off to Prague underground and has many adventures along the way. He is stopped by a policeman just outside the building and gives a lift to a group of young people, where he is attracted by a charming girl, a single mother... At home, however, he does not find his wife Ruzena and finally succumbs to the seductions of a neighbour whose husband has left for the night shift. On his way back to the building site on a foggy night, he meets a broken-down ambulance, in which the girl from the youth group who attempted suicide is a patient...

Piloti

Further east of the Dark Blue Sky, where the Heavenly Horsemen fought, the story of a Czechoslovakian fighter squadron takes place, to which Second Lieutenant Jandak arrives as a rookie. He then experiences both his first love and a battle high above the clouds in the collective of combat pilots. Combat pilots on the Eastern Front thus experience similar stories to their Western colleagues, with the same goals and plans and the same slim prospects of survival in their daily life-and-death battles. Not surprisingly, they fought at a time when they had a common enemy, characterised by the Messerschmitt aircraft.

Days of Betrayal

This feature film based on the events of 1938 is a chronicle of the futile efforts of the Czechoslovak president Edvard Benes (Jirí Pleskot), politicians and ordinary citizens, to save the independence and the territorial integrity of the state from the advance of Hitler's Germany. On the 29th of March 1938 the leader of the Sudeten Germans Henlein (Werner Ehrlicher) has a meeting with Hitler (Gunnar Möller). Hitler orders him to intensify pressure on the Czechoslovak government. On the 24th of April in Carlsbad, the Sudetendeutsche Partei (Sudeten German Party) decides upon eight demands that are unacceptable to the Czechoslovak President, since they would ultimately lead to the break-up of the Republic. Benes still shows a certain willingness to negotiate, and Henlein resents this. The Germans are determined to make further negotiations impossible through incidents and violence.

In the era of normalisation, a number of (pseudo)historical films were made, even described as reconstructions, which glorified the world-building mission of the Communist Party and attributed to it exclusively humanitarian intentions ("Days of Betrayal", "Sokolovo", "Liberation of Prague", "The Victorious People"). In 1929, when its fifth congress met, Klement Gottwald, who had taken the line of the Russian Bolsheviks, took over the leadership of the Communists...

The Motive for Murder

A short story film depicting the three different faces of crime. In the short story "The Weekend", Karas kills a woman he raped some time ago in order to silence her. However, he accidentally kills another woman. In "Hostages", a drug addict, Chaban, terrorizes the hospital's operating team, but the disciplined doctors handle the difficult situation. In "The Pickpocket", the thief Benda wants to return to his trade immediately after his release, but his attempt ends tragically.

Zbraně pro Prahu

In May 1945, Czech revolutionaries used several armoured trains in the fighting - partly captured, partly assembled from whatever the railway brought. One of them was commanded by the shunter Jan Chýň, who managed to bring weapons from the ammunition depot in Libčice to help the fighting in Prague.

Vynes na horu svoj hrob

The Himalayan mountain Makalu, located in Nepal, is the fifth highest mountain in the world. In 1973, a Czechoslovak expedition also attempted to climb it via the challenging route, the so-called South Pillar, but it ended tragically. The group of climbers led by the experienced Ivan Kaščák (real-life Ivan Gálfy) is composed of the fittest men. In the base camp and during the preparation of the advanced camps, the expedition struggles with common health problems - a sore tooth, intestinal problems or a cold. For the actual climb to the summit of Makalu, Kaščák chooses a young engineering student Milan, a colleague Karol who is a generation older than him, and a young man Jož. In the advanced camp, without Kaščák's knowledge, he gives up his place to the ambitious Karol. However, due to fatigue and lack of oxygen, Milan falls down a snowy slope and injures his head and spine. He can‘t be transported down.

Boys Will Be Boys

Three friends - Tomás, Hubert and Jozka - are boys growing up in a little town. Tomás lives with his aunt Apolena and uncle Václav. Tomás is a boy with lots of ideas that often end up getting him into trouble not only with his teachers and aunt, but with the other inhabitants of the town as well. He has a crush on his schoolmate Blanka and for her sake he decides to try to get the prize for the best pupil in the school.

Pomerančový kluk

A quarrel between divorced waitress Mája and her fifteen-year-old son Petr ends with the boy physically attacking his mother, and he is sent to an institution for juvenile delinquents.

Wyrd Sisters

An adaptation of the sixth book in Terry Pratchett's Discworld fantasy series, performed by Divadlo v Dlouhé. On Discworld, which is flat and travels through space on the back of a giant turtle, unimaginable things began to happen when three witches—Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, and Magrat Garlick—became involved in royal politics. They did not like the cruel rule of Lord Felmet, who ascended the throne after murdering King Verence, who thus became a ghost.

The Liberation of Prague

On 20th of April 1945 the Soviet army launches its attack on Berlin. The end has come for Nazi Germany and Hitler decides to commit suicide. In Prague K.H. Frank (Nazi Secretary of State and Chief of police in the Protectorate of Bohemia a Moravia) discusses with his commanders how to transform the city into an impregnable fortress, but the Praguers do not intend to wait any longer. From the early hours of 4th of May people start assembling in the streets and tearing down German signs. On the next day, the 5th of May, the uprising begins.

It would never occur to a confident and proud ruler that someone somewhere is counting his misdeeds and that punishment will soon follow. Only when he becomes an exile and has to live like an ordinary person and work does he find a new approach to life and ultimately become a wise and just ruler.

Diagnóza smrti

Two seriously injured patients are brought to the hospital at almost the same time: truck driver Honza Linhart, who had an accident, and a young woman found unconscious in a forest by a man picking mushrooms. The woman is identified as Katerina Marková, the divorced mother of a young girl. Major Kalas (Rudolf Hrusínský) suspects that she is a victim of mugging since a bloodstained small ax has been found near the site of the crime and, according to witnesses, Ms Marková was missing her watch and a bracelet, from which a gemstone has also been discovered. Linhart has lost his only kidney in the accident; in order to live a normal life again, he will need a kidney transplant from the mugged woman if she dies.

The opera lady singer Ema Destinnová is in all her splendor at the American stages. But in Europe there rages war and she decides to return home to Bohemia.

Autumn 1988. Renata is studying journalism. She lives with her jealous boyfriend Standa, whom she occasionally cheats on. She edits the school magazine and is perhaps a little more daring than the others, mainly because she doesn't want to be the daughter of her father, a bigwig at the Ministry of the Interior. But the situation is getting out of her hands—Renata's anti-regime mini-activities and her romance with dissident Holý are getting the attention of the STB. Her dad is worried about his career and maybe even convinced that he should disinherit her. Her relationship with Standa is getting complicated.

The story of fifteen-year-old Renata, who lives in a small apartment with her divorced parents, takes place during the socialist era of the 1980s. Not only does she have her own problems appropriate for her age, but she is also disgusted by her parents' constant arguments, who willingly involve her in all their intimate matters. She takes revenge on them by getting into more and more trouble. She gets drunk, listens to Radio Free Europe, and rebels somewhat clumsily against the political situation. But when things get really bad, she allows herself to be rescued by her father, a member of the secret police, with a mixture of admiration and contempt. Weaned on this confused world of adults, she clumsily stands on her own two feet. Only when she falls in love with a boy she doesn't want at a dance and loses her virginity to a boy she doesn't really know, only after various emotional escapades, does she find a certain indulgence for her eternally quarreling parents...

Swingtime

The story is based on Operation Stone, during which State Security agents deliberately misled citizens of the Czechoslovak Republic who were attempting to leave the country illegally by creating fake borders and fake border patrols and interrogation teams from American, German, and French authorities. During interrogations, State Security officers convinced detainees that they had actually crossed the state border of our republic and obtained information from unsuspecting people, which was then used in criminal proceedings.

The Legend of Immortality

The film takes place in late 1941 in Transcarpathia. Soviet paratroopers landed on the territory occupied by the Hortists. Of the six, only Olexa Borkanyuk manages to bypass the ambush. However, the Nazis, taking local people hostage, threaten to punish them if he doesn't voluntarily surrender. For the sake of saving the lives of people, Olexa goes to the camp of the enemy. The film is based on real facts from the life of the writer and journalist, Hero of the Soviet Union Olexa Borkanyuk.

Black Wolf

In the thick woods at the edge of the Bohemian Forest, two border guards are keeping watch - rifleman Kucera (Rudolf Jelínek) and dog handler Stencl (Josef Hajducík), whose sluggishness and clumsiness have won him the nickname Simpleton. The official army dog, the bitch Líza, picks up the scent of an alien dog on the German side - Black Wolf. She bites through her leash and runs away. Soon afterwards, the border boundary was interrupted. The two soldiers are wounded in the gunfire that follows, but Stencl's shot also hits the target and the intruder - an attractive woman in a black jersey - is dead. The investigation reveals that this agent knew someone among the local residents. The locals are all called in to identify the body but nobody admits to knowing the woman.

The Secret of a Great Narrator

The life of the famous French writer Alexander Dumas the Elder. Screenwriter Jaroslav Dietl did not hide his admiration for this literary giant, and in addition to the screenplay he also wrote a three-part TV play about Dumas (starring Vladimír Menšík). In Kachyn's film, Dumas played the father and son of the Štěpánková brothers, and it was a very difficult and difficult task for these young actors.

Naši furianti

A Gogolian grotesque with elements of Italian neorealism underscored by Janáček's four-part harmonies. The Divadlo v Dlouhé theater consciously renounced folkloric color and psychological insight into the souls of individual characters and focused primarily on a comedic view of everyday Czech life, in which vanity and personal interests often play a key role. Director Jan Borna based his production on Miroslav Macháček's famous adaptation, which, however, underwent minor changes in the staging by the actors of the Divadlo v Dlouhé theater.

Outsider

Elementary school student Jožka has a great love – horses. He is looking forward to turning this love into a profession. However, he is atoning for his father's criminal activities, he is not accepted into his dream school focused on horse breeding due to a bad report and has to be content with learning to be a tractor driver. However, he continues to do his best for horses, he trains the racehorse Palisander, who has never won. His outsider fate is similar to his. However, Jožka wins everything there is to win despite various ups and downs – he stands up to bullying in the youth home, an arrogant tutor, human weaklings, manages to study well even at a school that he doesn't enjoy and does sports. He also gains the respect of his classmates. Real jockeys also star in the film. It also features the birth and death of a horse. The scene where Jožka's father saves a horse from a burning truck is dramatic. The scenes with carrier pigeons are touching.

Zelená léta

Four short stories depicting the private life of Czechoslovak soldiers. In the short story "The Pheasant", the hardened corporal Kony takes revenge on the bullying of the new recruit Lubos. On the way to get a tank repaired, however, a manly friendship is born between the two men. The story Potato depicts a brigade during which, despite the prohibitions of a strict professor, soldiers and students become close at an evening disco. The buns bring to life the problems of military love: Štěpánka prefers Peter to Honza, but pays heavily for her mistake. The film closes with the short story "The Solution", in which a lieutenant from Slovakia has problems with the arrangement of his family life.

A love story of a couple of mature people of completely different characters, who lived and worked side by side for years only as colleagues, but whose accidental trip to Slovakia to attend the wedding of Hedin's sister brought them closer, probably for the rest of their lives...

Maryša

Maryša, a peasant daughter, is forced by her greedy parents to marry a rich miller, a widower with three children. But she loves the village scoundrel Franck, who has no hope against Vávra. Francek goes to the army and Maryša and Vávra go to catechism with the priest. Maryša and Vávra's marriage is unhappy. The parents also realize their mistake, especially Lízal, who offers his daughter to return home. Maryša refuses and also rejects the proposal of Franck, who has returned from the army and asks her to run away to Brno with him. She chooses a tragic solution...

Hrozba

The story takes place in a metallurgical plant where important technological changes are being made while the plant is in full operation. However, a mistake in the project puts the entire plant at risk, as a gas explosion threatens. All the workers then forget about any potential rifts and join forces to prevent the worst...

The Last Day of Patriarchy

Nina is pregnant with Jakub. Today, he introduces her to his family. They’re all gathered in the hospital at the bedside of his grandfather. Just as the young lady tries to put on a brave face, she is faced with the surprising reaction of the dying relative: he wants to see her breasts. This sparks a debate to which she is not invited – should the patriarch’s last vow be satisfied?

Rheum

Libuše and her husband Jaromír have been together for a long time, perhaps too long. It seems their lives have become mired in a vicious circle of enervation, which neither of them wants to admit. The couple might have spent the rest of their days like this were it not for the arrival of a motivational package from an agency called The Sun…

Jsi falešný hráč

Even the best of friends can fall apart, often all it takes is a minor misunderstanding. That's exactly what happened to two village friends, children finishing elementary school, between whom hostility and suspicion suddenly set in. The mosaic-like plot contains a number of humorous observations, but overall it distances itself from any ambition to deeply affect the mentality of adolescents, much less the countryside.

Náhodou je príma!

Even ideology permeated the children's stories: the beginnings of forced collectivisation in the village are seen through the eyes of a young boy. As the son of an honest and deliberate communist official, there is no shortage of informed insight, even if it is lightened slightly by the occasional wacky idea. However, childhood friendships or even loves run up against the conflicts of an excited age, especially when the protagonist's best friends come from families of class enemies.

Evropa tančila valčík

Otakar Vávra dedicated his latest film to events accompanying the devastation of the first World War. It takes place in representative centers of power, in the courts of Vienna, Berlin and Moscow. In parallel, it develops the fate of the Czech archivist, who will take part in the Serbian anti-Austrian branch.

Můj přítel d’Artagnan

Milda, a 13-year-old boy, loves to read adventure novels and imagines himself as a musketeer. He spends his summer vacation with his parents in a cottage in the Jizera Mountains, where he meets new friends and faces various challenges.

Silnější než já

A story inspired by true events, the fate of a multiple juvenile murderer, takes place in an apprentice boarding school. "A series of sexual murders! A real case that could happen again at any time."

Byl jednou jeden polda

The film, which opens with students arriving at a police academy, is a crazy comedy that is more a series of zany episodes and jokes than a coherent story. They are linked by a simple plot in which the commander of the police academy, Major Maisner, searches among his recruits for an alleged FBI spy and, after a not-so-subtle practical joke, gets into a dispute with his subordinate, a dispute that ends in a genuine bank robbery.

Fair Play

In the 1980s, Anna, a Czech sprinter, starts training for the Olympics. After she collapses during training, she learns she is being given steroids and decides to stop using them until her mother helps the coaches give them to her.

Walking Too Fast

The psyche of a ruthless secret agent in Cold War Czechoslovakia begins to unravel when he obsesses over the girlfriend of a suspected subversive he is tracking. This taut political thriller is a bleak and potent rendering of the emotional destruction wreaked by totalitarianism.
