The Station Master

Vlasta Burian, as a stowaway, disrupts the disciplined operation of a railway station. Mr. Ťopka gives the impression of a gentleman, somewhat Chaplin-like. He makes a living by doing odd jobs, for which he exclusively rides the train as a stowaway. During one of his trips, he meets the feared railway inspector general Kokrhel. At a small station, he manages to get out and change into the stationmaster's uniform. However, he cannot avoid meeting Inspector Kokrhel...

Once Upon a Time, There Was a King...

A selfish self-centered widowed ruler, barely tolerated by his subjects and called appropriately enough, 'King Myself, First' asks his three daughters to name the measure of their love for him. When one of them says, "more than salt", he banishes her from the kingdom. Not understanding what she meant the King assumes love can only be measured by precious metals or one's own talent, the 'correct' answers from his other two daughters. The arrogance of the King leads him to gather all the salt in the kingdom and destroy it. Of course, this backfires as he slowly learns the universal value of the substance, and of course, the essence of his daughter's reply. With the help of the wise and magical old 'herb woman', the King also learns what it means to be a true and wise ruler.

Fish out of Water

Ryba, the owner of a boat rental shop and ferryman, has lived his entire life in a house by the river, which often becomes fatal for swimmers and suicides. However, because Ryba saves many drowning people, he becomes a very popular figure in the entire region.

Imperial and Royal Field Marshal

František Procházka was retired early because his soldiers sang a forbidden song about a c. and k. field marshal. Since he is a soldier in body and soul and his request for reactivation is rejected, he decides to visit his nephew Rudi. Upon arrival, he finds the uniform of the secretly expected field marshal in his nephew's room and, after putting it on and walking through the corridors of the garrison in it, he has no choice but to complete the entire play to the end. With his performance, he helps his nephew to get married, convicts the wanted spy and is eventually promoted to the real marshal and called back into service.

Král komiků

The impersonator goes to the dressing room after his exit and is haunted by visions of Vlasta Burian. At every performance, the audience asks him to perform the famous comedian. The Imitator decides to take a holiday instead, but even then he has no peace.

Muž v povětří

Mr. Čap is an inventor who disturbs the peace of the town of Krásnov with his experiments. During his attempts to discover the eternal match, smoke and a stench pour out of the window, accompanied by detonations. Some people are amused by it, others fear for their lives.

A Czech satirical comedy, filmed according to a script by the State Prize laureate Jiří Marek based on several of his satirical short stories. The film contains three stories, the first of which mocks careerism, the second takes aim at the inadequate attitude of some of our literary critics, and the final story is a satirical picture of how irresponsible construction work is still done in some parts of our country.

Duchacek Will Fix It

Mr. Ducháček runs the law firm of JUDr. Faukner in a peculiar but completely devoted manner, which manages the financial affairs of the Rispaldic family. The family members treat their lawyer Faukner with condescension, except for their daughter Julia, who secretly loves him. However, no one except Ducháček knows that the squandering family no longer has any money and that JUDr. Faukner is subsidizing it, because he is also secretly in love with Julia.

The Catacombs

The title refers to the office of records in the basement of a large company... sort of the place where a troublesome employee may be dumped in a dead end job. If fact, the story is a simple romantic comedy, with Burian as the kindly old stick-in-the-mud who helps the young man to sort out his romance with the daughter of the company's owner.

Lelíček in the Services of Sherlock Holmes

The Portorican prime minister asks British detective Sherlock Holmes to find a twin for King Fernando XXIII, a weak and frightened man who fears anarchists and does not want to show himself in public. Holmes finds in the Czech newspapers a photo of the perfect double, František Lelíček, a daring bon vivant drowned in debt, so when Holmes offers him money, Lelíček decides to travel to Portorico and play the role.

The Best Man of All

A Czech satirical comedy set around 1900. The inhabitants of the small town of Pětice are excited by a mysterious package that is to be delivered to the best person in the village. Of course, all members of the town council claim the title of best person. In the end, it turns out that it was a cleverly thought-out prank intended to reveal the true character of the "better people" of the town.

Cash Claim Chaos

Hospital orderly Rozruch, denied his therapeutic treatment, is mistaken for Dr. Marek at the insurance office and sent to a spa. Councilor Pěna, plotting to wed his mistress after his daughter Heda’s marriage, also arrives. At the spa, impostures collide, identities are exposed, and hidden motives and loyalties come to light.

Burian the Liar

Fifty years old Baron von Fibberg lives at The Fibberg Castle with his wife Olga and daughter Charley. Besides the delight in hunting, Baron is very enthusiastic about truth. Although he can't withstand any falsehood of others, he keeps his own intimate secrets from his wife. Charley seems to be an innocent girl at first glance, but she has a little secret too. She fell in love with a young fop Ernest Benda and married him in secret. Her only concern is the way, how to let her strict father know about the marriage. Together with her husband they prepare a plan how to do it, but it turns out to be a catastrophe for the whole family.

The Loves of Kačenka Strnadová

The film depicts the adventures of Kacenka (Zdena Kavková) and Vincek (Vlasta Burian), two innocent country bumpkins who live in a Czech small town, and the various jobs that Kacenka has once she moves to Prague, that beautiful capital city. Our heroine will have to bear difficult working conditions and to make things worse, she falls in love with a fake aristocrat. Fortunately her companion, Vincek who is also in Prague, has an unrequited love for her. Though he is the cause of many Kacenka's problems, Vincek finally will help and resolve her loves troubles. And of course there is a happy ending that brings the Czech couple together.

Business in Distress

Finnicky efficiency expert is sent to straighten out business management problems at a jazz club, and finds self being drawn into the swingin' scene.

Skill of Gold

A village shop owner is convinced by his children to move to Prague, where they say he'll be able to enjoy a fine retirement in a modern furnished apartment. Bored by life in Prague with nothing to do, the old man takes to helping a young widow in her stationery shop.

Anton Špelec, Sharp-Shooter

Anton Špelec (Vlasta Burin) is a producer of musical instruments by trade but a sharp-shooter at heart. He expects to be awarded a medal at a large parade in town where veteran sharp-shooters will be honored. When the town council is one medal short, Anton must wait another year for his prized possession. He drowns his disappointment in drink at the local pub and becomes so drunk that he insults the emperor who sentences him to jail. Instead of fulfilling the emperor’s orders himself, Anton sends his employee in his stead.

The Inspector-General

Vlasta Burian appears in a town of Czarist Russia impersonating an Inspector General, and he is entertained lavishly by the local political-hacks and peasants seeking his favor for whatever they are advocating or need fixed. Burain is involved in a series of comical situations as he takes everything he can gets his hands on while the peasants, who must plead for the betterment of their conditions, are left on the outside-looking-in. He makes his escape just as the real Inspector General is set to appear, but those-in-need will be no better off when the real McCoy shows up then they were with Burian.

The Twelve Chairs

The first movie adaptation of the Russian novel "The Twelve Chairs" by Ilya Ilf and Yevgeniy Petrov. The basic idea from this movie, in which a barber and an antique salesman were searching for money hidden in one of of twelve chairs, was later reused for other official and unofficial adaptions of the book

Don't Make Grandpa Angry

Eman Vovísek drinks away his unrequited love for Liduška, who married his cousin, the factory owner Danek. Because Eman is aggressive when drunk, he is taken to a mental health facility, where he meets his uncle Hanibal. Hanibal has a breakdown after his wife Matylda broke up with him. Matylda wanted to be free so she could marry her first love, Uncle Jonathan, who is due to arrive from America. Jonathan sends a telegram saying he will stay in Paris. Such a situation does not suit Danek. He assumed that Liduška would be visiting from America and that he himself would go to his mistress in the meantime. He therefore visits Vovísek and persuades him to play the role of Jonathan.

The Heroic Captain Korkoran

The captain of the Prague shipping company, Adam Korkorán, lives his dreams of commanding ocean liners, even though in reality he only sails a small steamer on the Vltava River. The company's management still has problems with him, so when Korkorán refuses to retire, they at least send him to a spa. However, at the train station in Poděbrady, a servant from the most expensive spa hotel accidentally takes away his suitcase with the luggage of a rich lady. As a result, Korkorán is mistaken for a corvette captain and a rich man. Dazzled by the luxury, Korkorán befriends a retired admiral and begins to play a game with the spa guests and himself. He is even declared the most popular guest of the season. When he runs out of money, he writes to his housekeeper to send him all his savings. The horrified woman decides to go to Korkorán, and the truth comes out...

The Undertaker

An employee of the funeral home Pleticha calls his superior. He overhears that he is supposed to buy a wedding gift and deliver it to his boss's relatives. He therefore sets off to the given address to organize the funeral. When the mistake is explained, Pleticha, in return for the entertainment, performs dances and songs of various nations for the wedding guests. One of the guests, grandfather Boleslav Hnipírdo, experienced a train collision near Vrňany on his way to Prague. Since he was not injured, he does not even want to ask for compensation. Pleticha takes advantage of this and goes to the railway headquarters with his leg bandaged. He pretends to be Hnipírdo and is questioned in detail about his journey. Thanks to his talkativeness, he reveals, among other things, that he jumped on a moving train, drove illegally, spat on the window and tore off the emergency brake...

Three Eggs in a Glass

Vincenc Babočka, an insignificant employee of the police station, plays detective in private, convinced of his exceptional abilities. However, a vacation in Karlovy Vary unexpectedly gives him the opportunity to prove what he is really capable of. He is mistakenly considered to be the international adventurer Leon Weber, who is being pursued by the police. He decides to take advantage of the confusion and expose Weber's accomplices, who are planning to steal diamonds belonging to the Maharaja of Yohir. According to Weber's plan, he meets the Maharaja disguised as General Naryshkin, but everything only works out until the real Weber appears in town...

Eaten Out of House and Home

The gullible buyer Žemla Martin (Francis Smolik) finally opened his dream shop. After a while, you get a lot of friends. Especially the former captain Kyllijána (Vlasta Burian), who come to him to drink brandy debt and sit on a bag of peas, where he talks nonsense. Its debt is starting to grow nicely. Later dupe marry an evil Pavlina Šustrová (Ela Poznerová). It can also bring their calculating mother, widow Catherine Šustrová (Antonie Nedošínská). These two together with a bun Kyllijánem use, but outside him are friendly. Later, when Žemla catches his wife cheating when he has become the father of a foreign child, and when he discovers that the shop is broke and completely vyjedený, poisoning. I‘ll Marry Off My Wife

However, when his wife returns home after seven years in remorse, Ducánek takes a complicated action to elegantly get rid of his wife...

The Street is Singing

A pair of circus clowns, played by Vlasta Burian and Jaroslav Marvan, take in an abandoned child and care for them even when they have to make a living as street musicians. The grateful foundling loves his adoptive parents even in adulthood, when he struggles with both love and stolen loot that accidentally falls into their laps. However, the result is only a crudely sentimental comedy that is considered one of the weakest works of the king of comedians, although he also participated in the direction.

Hero of One Night

Country tailor Florian Svíčička neglects his work because of his interest in medieval history. When preparing an amateur performance at Zdislavice Castle, he gladly replaces the bailiff and plays the role of a knight. However, he ruins the performance and is shamefully banished. On his way home, he witnesses a horrific scene in the forest: two knights behead a young girl. It later turns out that it was a filming, and the girl Hana, a double for the famous diva Elvíra, spends the night with Florian at the castle because the filmmakers accidentally leave her. The master loses patience with Florian's excesses and Florian is fired from the tailoring shop. He sets off for Prague to find the girl he was with at the castle the night before. However, he does not know her name and accidentally comes to Elvíra's villa. The diva is not at home. Florian finds a love letter in the villa and thinks it is addressed to him. However, upon his return, Elvíra mercilessly throws Florian out...

His Majesty's Adjutant

Lieutenant Patera, who unfortunately became involved in a scandalous affair in the highest circles of the Habsburg monarchy, is transferred from his sentence to the backwater garrison in Munich.

Him and His Sister

Postman Brabec is a welcome guest of the revue theatre for his sense of humor, and he brings his director Holt letters from female admirers every day. Holt's fans include Brabec's sister Anny. The girl would like to join the theatre, but for the time being works as a maid for the actress Velden. A new revue is being rehearsed, the name of the author is secret. Veldenová will return the role just before the premiere because she doesn't like it. The quick-witted Brabec introduces the director to his sister, who knows all the parts by heart.

The Fake Sweetheart

The film depicts the troubles of Herr Verner ( Herr Karel Hasler ), a middle-aged bachelor dentist who wants to marry.

The Lovers of an Old Criminal

Factory owner Pardon, meets Olga, daughter of clairvoyant Stefanie Lesczynska at a ball. Their brief acquaintance is interrupted when Olga and her mother have to leave. Fifi Hrazánková has her sights set on the elligible Pardon. Pardon asks his Uncle Cyril Ponděliček if the girl could take over his position at work so that she may be dissuaded of her amorous intentions. Fifi seduces Pondělíček. In the meantime, Pardon meets Olga and Stefanie again by chance and offers them a place to stay at Ponděliček’s while Pondělíček passes himself off as Pardon.

The Hen and the Sexton

Cooperative members are harvesting crops, trying to get new water piping installed and preparing to plough away the field boundaries in autumn. Local kulak Voznica (Vladimír Repa) doesn't like any of this so he forces sexton Kodýtek (Vlasta Burian) to help him sabotage their efforts.

Meet the Sister

Anny Brabcová is Sabine Veldenová's maid. She would very much like to get the main role in the new musical "The Pink Letter", in which Veldenová plays. Anna's brother, the easy-going postman Jarda Brabec gets the lyrics to the most famous song of the whole musical "The Pink Letter" from his sister and decides that Anna will sing it at the postal academy right in front of the Minister of Posts, where she will reap great success. Later, when the spoiled star Veldenová ends her role in the musical, the director of the theater Bernhard, with whom Anny is in love, has no choice but to announce an audition for the role.
