The ruler of Thebes Creon decrees that Eleocles should have an honorable burial while the body of the traitor Polyneices should be left on the battlefield to be eaten by the jackals and vultures. However, Antigone, who was betrothed to Creon's surviving son Haemon, defies Creon's orders and buries her brother. When Creon is reported of the attitude of Antigone, he sentences her to be placed in a tomb alive. Antigone hangs herself in the tomb and Haemon tries to kill his father first and then he kills himself with his sword...

The film is based on real events and tells the story of a group of Greeks who successfully escape from the Boules camp and return to Greece. Boules was a town that took in Greek refugees from the Civil War of 1945-1949. The escape took place because the exiled leaders of the illegal Communist Party of Greece began to exterminate their former comrades who did not share the views of the clique of the party's new secretary general, Nikos Zachariadis. The atmosphere in the camp was unbearable in every respect.

Sergeant George Merkos is so absorbed in his duties that he never finds the time to meet the relatives of Anna, the girl he loves. Instead of going to her house, he chose to arrest a criminal and then go to the villa of Julia, a middle-aged woman who was found dead. The sergeant's suspicions turn to the murdered woman's young husband, Alekos Petratos, but he has a solid alibi. The meticulous Merkos finally refutes Petratos' alibi, but shows excessive zeal in arresting Dimitris Naskos, whom he mistakenly believes to be the rapist of a young woman.
