Like a Dragon: Prologue

In 1970s-era Japan, three children, Kazuma Kiryu, Akira Nishikiyama, and his younger sister, Yuko Nishikiyama, are raised together in Shintaro Kazama's Sunflower Orphanage. In the summer of 1980, Yumi Sawamura, a young girl whose parents were accidentally shot and killed during a gang's shootout, joins them in the orphanage. Kyoichi Sakura (Ryuji Harada), the underboss of the Ichihara-kai, is known as the brains of the organization, trusted absolutely by Chairman Ichihara. One day, the boss of the rival Sanno-kai Todo-gumi is shot by a member of the Ichihara-kai. To take responsibility, Kyoichi is expelled from the syndicate. After a nationwide yakuza conflict ends, Kyowakai enters a new phase under Wakagashira Himuro Renji (Yasukaze Motomiya), strengthening its territories across Japan. Assistant Wakagashira Tamura (Yoshiyuki Yamaguchi) moves the Kawatani-gumi headquarters to Osaka to secure western Japan. In Tohoku, many groups join the Kanto-based Marugami-kai led by Mita (Shun Sugata), but Hirakawa (Hitomi Matsuda) of Shinyukai refuses and instead joins Kyowakai. Seeking revenge, Marugami-kai Vice Director Tsurumi (Mikio Osawa) prepares for conflict. Within Kyowakai, Wakagashira-hosa Kijima becomes isolated, while former Kudo-gumi members plot a return by targeting Chairman Kawatani (Hitoshi Ozawa). Himuro and Tamura put an end to the suffering of Munakata, the leader of the Fujishiro-gumi of the Marukami-kai, and expanded the Kyowa-kai to the Kanto region, but soon after, they receive news of Munakata's suicide. When Himuro saw the suicide note, he became suspicious and concluded that it was the work of Tsurumi of the Marukami-kai, who was the first to discover it. The conflict between Himuro and Tsurumi becomes even more intense.
