Some people have to live their lives on a constant look out for snakes. Some even have to wear boots all the time. But people in Iceland have the privilege of just wearing whatever shoes they want – without any worries.

Birta

Birta overhears her mother’s phone conversation. She is saying to a friend that, due to her financial problems, she won’t be able to afford the family Christmas. Strong and responsible Birta decides to find a way to raise money but it’s not so easy when you’re only 11 years old.

Volcano

Hannes is an old man who has grown apart from his children. Recently retired when his wife gets ill he tries to reconcile with them and to atone for his cold demeanor in the past.

White Whales

A whale-boat is making its final whaling tour of the season. It pursues and catches a whale, and then proceeds home. The men working on the boat have to find themselves different employment now that the season is over. Among the crew are two friends, Grímur and Bubbi. The film mainly concerns itself with their efforts to make some kind of contact with what is going on in Reykjavik.
